Bala becomes the first Indian women to sign a professional contract as the Gers gear up for their first season as a full-time professional side and MacDonald thinks her journey from India to Glasgow can help show others what they can achieve.
“Bala is already a role model for girls across India and they will now be able to see her travel across the world to become a professional footballer,” MacDonald told Rangers TV.
“Her move can be inspirational for players everywhere to show them where football can take them and what it can help them achieve.”
Bala is the top scorer for the Indian women’s national team, netting a phenomenal 52 times in 58 games since 201o and hitting 100 goals in 120 games at club level.
Such an incredible record in front of goal has earner Bala the top scorer award in the Indian Women’s League for the past two seasons as well as twice being named the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Women’s Player of the Year, in 2015 and 2016.
After linking with Indian side Bengaluru last year, it looks as though the club’s growth in Asia starting to have an effect with the recruitment of one of the region’s top female footballers.
