Reported January Rangers target Jerry Yates has responded to questions about those links to Ibrox but has played down an exit from Blackpool.

The 26-year-old hitman has been one fine form for the Seasiders this season and has netted nine goals in the English Championship.

This has led to much speculation regarding Yates’ future with Rangers and West Brom two names who have been prominently linked to the player.

But speaking to Sky Sports, Jerry Yates has admitted he is flattered by the reported interest but the ex-Rotherham, Harrogate, Carlisle and Swindon forward claims he’s happy at Blackpool.

“It’s a nice feeling, but I’m happy at Blackpool. I’ve got a few more years left on my contract here,” said Yates.

The comments come amid claims Rangers are leading the race to sign the striker, with the Ibrox club actually mentioned as potential suitors in the summer of 2021.

The suggestion is that Rangers are set to test Blackpool’s resolve with a £2m bid in January whilst the Bloomfield Road club are holding out for closer to £5m.

It’s also interesting to consider that whilst Jerry Yates continues to be linked to Rangers, the club are currently on the hunt for a new management team.

The Gers have sacked manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst meaning that should Yates will have a new manager to play under should any prospective Rangers move come to fruition.

Rangers are also facing the prospect of losing once star striker Alfredo Morelos come the end of the season, with the Colombian’s contract up in the summer.

Kemar Roofe is also proving unreliable with injuries whilst Antonio Colak – a summer signing at the club – has impressed in the early part of his Rangers career.

Meanwhile, one man linked to the management job at the Ibrox club will be free to speak to Rangers if they come calling.
