Former Rangers star Kris Boyd has claimed that Niko Katic’s performance in the 2-2 draw with St. Johnstone is the up there with the worst “90 minutes from a Rangers centre-half” he’s seen.
Katic had a torrid afternoon and had a big involvement in both Saints goals as the Gers title hopes evaporated at McDiarmid Park yesterday afternoon.
Boyd was far from impressed, calling it the worst performance from a Rangers defender that he can remember as he tore into the Gers’ performance.
“It was the worst 90 minutes I’ve seen from a Rangers centre-half. That I can remember anyway,” Boyd said during Sky Sports’ live coverage of the clash.
“The first three clips here [footage of Katic mistakes] are before the goal – the goal went in in the eighth minute.
“Steven Gerrard sent George Edmundson out to warm up after 10 minutes.
“For me, personally, I struggle to find a worse 90 minutes from a Rangers centre-half, I’m sorry.
“I just thought from start to finish, it wasn’t good enough.”
The Gers are now 12 points behind bitter rivals Celtic after their 3-1 win over Kilmarnock and it looks as though it will take a miracle to stop Celtic lifting the title this season.
With Filip Helander out injured, George Edmundson could come into the side if Gerrard decides to take Katic out of the firing line.
The Gers boss admitted yesterday he needs the Swede back “sharpish” although it looks as though the season will be effectively over by the time he does finally return to full fitness.
