Kenny Miller insists re-signing Alfredo Morelos to a long-term contract is ‘paramount’ this summer for Rangers as he admitted the Colombian could ‘cement proper legendary status’ at Ibrox if he extends his stay.

El Bufalo is entering the final year of his current deal and has been linked with a cut-price move to Sevilla this summer, although Rangers are said to be keen to give Morelos a new contract.

With Morelos having already written his name into the club’s record books by becoming the all-time record European goalscorer for Rangers, Miller thinks he can further cement his place among the greats if he stays.

“At this stage, if the club wants to maximise his value, trying to get him re-signed is paramount,” Miller said [Sunday Mail].

“Because then, even if he did leave in a year or two, they could get a much bigger transfer fee.

“A new contract could see him at the club for almost 10 years.

“He arrived as a 20-year-old and might spend the majority of his career at Rangers. And if he continued scoring, Morelos could become one of the all-time greats at Ibrox.

“As long as he stays fit and in form, Alfredo could hit 200 goals for Rangers.

“He’s got a long way to go before he catches Ally McCoist as all-time top scorer.

“But if he signs a new contract this summer, he could go on to cement proper legendary status at the club.”

Keeping Morelos would be brilliant for Rangers long-term

Morelos has been an incredible signing since moving to Ibrox from HJK Helsinki five years ago for £1million.

Even if a new deal is signed with a view to him moving sooner rather than later, it would help Rangers maximise their return on Morelos.

However, the reports of a fee just under £7million from Sevilla are laughable and is nowhere near what the club should be demanding, even if Morelos doesn’t sign a new deal.
