Hibs coach coy on Rangers loanee's long-term future

Hibs coach John Potter has hinted that he would like to see Rangers loanee Greg Docherty remain at Easter Road longer term after an impressive start to his loan spell.

Docherty set up two of Marc McNulty’s three goals before hitting the fourth himself in a 4-1 win over BSC Glasgow in the Scottish Cup.

The win over the minnows was his first start for Hibs and Potter admitted that Doc having two year left on his Ibrox deal means we’ll have to “wait and see” what the future holds for him.

“Look, he is a good player,” Potter said, as quoted by Deadline News.

“We want good players at this club.

“Obviously he is contracted to Rangers, we just have to wait and see.

“But if there are good players and guys we can think we can get in we would love to have them.”

After spending last season on loan at Shrewsbury Town and picking up their player of the year, many expected Docherty to get more of a chance at Rangers this season – but only managed five appearances, with four coming in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League and the other against East Fife.

Spending the next few months at Easter Road should give him a good platform to go out and perform consistently and try to show Rangers what they are missing.

With his Gers deal running until 2022, Rangers would likely be looking for a fee and future add ons to let Docherty move on permanently – and his time with Hibs could help boost that.
