Greg Stewart 'couldn't believe' how many Rangers fans were at 6-1 rout

Rangers forward Greg Stewart has lauded the “unbelievable support” in Dubai and confessed that he “couldn’t believe” how many fans were there to see the friendly with Lokomotiv Tashkent.

The Gers romped to a 6-1 win over Tashkent as Stewart grabbed a double late in the second half to cap off an impressive performance from the 29-year-old.

The former Birmingham ace insisted that the game was more about fitness than the result but felt it was a worthwhile exercise to round off a “good week’s work” in Dubai.

“It’s always nice to contribute and get a couple of goals but it was all about getting our fitness up and it was good to get some minutes,” Stewart told Rangers TV.

“It was nice to get a wee break because we’ve played a lot of games this season but the boys have come back and we’re buzzing to get started. We’ve had a good week training and done that today, so it has been a good week’s work.

“(There was) unbelievable support. I couldn’t believe how many people were here to watch us so it was nice to give them something back.”

Stewart’s performance will surely have given Steven Gerrard something to think about ahead of next week’s Scottish Cup clash against Stranraer, knowing Alfredo Morelos will miss out through suspension.

Since arriving at Ibrox, Stewart has found games difficult to come by but the boyhood Gers fan continually impressed when he is given a shot.

If Gerrard does pick him against Stranraer on Friday, it would be the perfect opportunity to show he deserves more game-time.
