Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty believes he has “grown massively” during his season-long loan spell with Shrewsbury Town – and insists it has been “invaluable” in getting his name “out there.
Docherty was sent south at the start of the campaign by Gers boss Steven Gerrard and has won a legion of fans with his impressive performances for Shrewsbury.
“I’ve grown massively off the pitch maybe in areas I didn’t think I had to. It’s a new league, going to different grounds, places where people didn’t know who I am,”
“I do want to try my best and I’m so grateful to the support. There’s a job still to be done and I need to keep going and repay them. I feel fresh with five games to go and I’m ready for every game.”
Docherty has made 46 appearances for Sam Rickett’s side and played 90 minutes of yesterday’s 2-0 win over Gillingham.
The three points will go a long way towards Shrewsbury having secured their League One place for next season.
With four games left in the campaign, Shrews have a six-point cushion on the relegation places and should be in a good position.
Whether Doc’s performances have done enough to win him a reprieve at Ibrox though remains to be seen.
