Greg Docherty is Shrewsbury's 'Duracell Bunny', says Ricketts.

Greg Docherty is spending the season on loan in League One at Shrewsbury Town, trying to prove he is good enough to become a regular an Ibrox regular.

The season has went well so far. He has accumulated 23 appearances for the Shrews and notched seven goals, the most recent of which came in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Peterborough United.

However, the team itself is struggling. They currently sit 17th in League One and recently dismissed their manager, John Askey.

Yet, the managerial change doesn’t seem to have effected Docherty’s prominence in the team. In fact, new boss, Sam Ricketts, recently praised the 22-year-old’s work ethic.

“Doch is like the Duracell Bunny”, he told the Shropshire star.

“He doesn’t stop running, does he? He’s a real asset and a real threat because of his energy and work rate.”

Ricketts went on to mention how crucial the loanee is to first team operations at Meadow Lane.

“He’s a player who probably typifies the team – honest, hard-working, with quality added to it.”

Such high praise from a manager who is only a couple of weeks into the job, will surely be a big boost to Docherty’s confidence.

He has certainly caught the eye down in England, and seems to be thriving on consistent opportunities for game time.

However, it’s vitally important that the young talent kicks on.

Clearly, he is a driving force within this team and he will need to continue to play a major role in order to drag them to League One safety, by the end of the season.
