Gerrard wants to make change to Manager of the Month award

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has admitted he would like to change the Manager of the Month award to recognise his full coaching team after he was named April’s winner.
Gerrard’s side won all four league games, scoring 11 times and conceding once as the Gers boss became the first Ibrox manager since Ally McCoist eight years ago to win the award.

The Gers boss thinks it would be “very nice” to change the award’s name to acknowledge the rest of the staff – and insists he gets “great support” round the clock from his backroom team.
“I think they should rename the ‘Manager of the Month’ award to ‘Coaching Team of the Month’ award to be honest,” Gerrard said as quoted by Rangers official website.

“I obviously get great support on a daily basis and round the clock from my staff, so if we could change the name of that individual award it would be very nice.”
Gerrard brought all-but-one of his coaching team to the club with him when he was appointed manager last summer – and looks to have built a strong group of coaches.

Having experienced guys like Mick Beale and Gary McAllister will be a massive help for the Gers boss as he comes to the end of his first season as a manager.
While it seems unlikely that the award will be changed any time soon, it’s good to see Gerrard making sure his coaches get the plaudits they deserve too.
