Gary McAllister: Patience and intensity the keys to success

This afternoon, Ryan Jack and Gers assistant manager, Gary McAllister, addressed the media.

Jack’s new contract dominated the early agenda, but attentions eventually turned to Sunday’s fixture against St Johnstone.

When asked about Rangers’ current issues in front of goal (the Gers have only scored twice in their last four), McAllister was adamant that things would improve.

“…we’ve got to trust what we’re doing. I’ve got a feeling that the goals will come and we should be getting rewarded for the amount of pressure we’re putting on the opponents”, said the ex-Leeds and Liverpool player.

Gerrard’s right hand man agreed with Borna Barisic’s post-match comments which suggested the performance at Easter Road in midweek was one of the best this season.

However, he believes that to get goals and results, two key things must improve.

“It’s getting that mix of intensity and obviously being patient”, he explained.

Clearly, the number of red cards the Gers have picked up this season, shows they’ve had issues with the former. While in the final third, things have become frantic recently.

“That word patient, sometimes you associate that with being slow or a slower build-up. It’s not the case. We can be patient and still move the ball quickly and that’s what we need to do.”

The message is clear. Rangers’ coaching staff don’t believe drastic changes are needed.

The performance level is there. According to McAllister, all they need now is the right balance of two key qualities.
