Former Rangers target Mexer “honoured” by Steven Gerrard approach

The Mexer saga appears to have finally drawn to a disappointing end after the player signed with Bordeaux, but the defender claims he was “honoured” by how Rangers and Steven Gerrard went about their business.
Signing the Mozambican centre half would’ve represented a real coup. The club was said to have offered the player a deal [STV] but it appears they just couldn’t get it over the line.
But in a message thanking Rennes, he expressed his gratitude at the Rangers boss flying out to meet him.

“There was also Glasgow Rangers and I was very honoured that Steven Gerrard travelled to Rennes to meet me,” Mexer told a French regional newspaper [as quoted by Sport Witness].
“As I was at the end of the contract, I wanted to listen to all the people who were interested in me.”
It appears Rangers had a solid interest in the player, something which
explains that photograph with Steven Gerrard.
It nice to hear that he was “honoured” that Steven Gerrard travelled all the way to France to meet him. It’s very classy from the Gers boss and exactly the standard we expect at Rangers.
But it also shows just how much Rangers wanted the player at Ibrox. The club needs defensive reinforcements with the likes of Joe Worrall heading back to Nottingham Forest and Gareth McAuley’s contract expiring.
That said, Mexer is not the only defender being linked with Ibrox. Here are three other defensive reinforcements reportedly interesting Steven Gerrard and co.
