Former Rangers star wants Gers to show fight in 'make or break' week

Former Rangers star Thomas Buffel thinks this week is “make or break” for the Light Blues’ season as they face massive games against Braga and Celtic over the coming days.

The Light Blues welcome the Portuguese side tomorrow before Sunday’s Hampden semi-final and Buffel thinks the players have to show they can handle the pressure and expectations that come with being at Rangers.

With the prospect of Rangers’ hopes of silverware being over by Sunday night, the Belgian hammered home just how big a week this is for Gio van Bronckhorst’s side.

“These games could make or break Rangers’ season,” Buffel said [Scottish Sun].

“They could end up in the last four of the Europa League and in a cup final, or out of Europe and out of the Cup.

“When you have a successful season, all of the important games come around the same time in the final few weeks.

“Now it’s time for all of the Rangers players to show they can handle the pressure and cope with the expectations.

“They have to show they are fighting for each other and the club to bring success.

“They have a great manager in Gio who had a fantastic playing career in his own right.

“He has been there and done it himself, so hopefully he can help guide them over the next few games.

“This is such an important week in terms of it being a successful season or not.”

Make or break week for van Bronkchorst’s Rangers reign

Should Rangers lose both games this week, there will be ever-growing calls for van Bronckhorst to go as the Gers face the prospect of a trophyless season.

While the manager has only been in position for months, it’ll be hard to shake the feeling we’re watching the same movie we were watching under Pedro Caixinha.

Meanwhile, Rangers fans have released a new song for the one player their hopes for the season may well rest.
