Former Rangers defender Nathan Patterson has admitted it is great to work with Scotland boss Steve Clarke and get minutes under his belt for the national team – insisting all he wants to do is play after struggling for games at Everton.

Patterson has been on the fringes of the side at Goodison Park since Frank Lampard replaced Rafa Benitez but retained his place in the Scotland starting XI for the friendly with Poland in midweek.

While the ex-Rangers star doesn’t see himself as first-choice right-back for the national team, Patterson is desperate to grab any chance to impress and show his club boss what he can bring to the Toffees.

“The gaffer is great with me and he is very supportive. He always speaks to me before games and tells me to go into the match and not to force things,” Patterson said [Herald].

“He knows my position so it’s nice to have a manager who has been in my place. I can speak to him during games as well and he can talk you through situations.”

“Did I need this boost? Look it’s all about playing for me, it’s all I want to do. Any chance I get I will do my best and hopefully, there are more opportunities to come my way.

“I don’t see myself as first choice for Scotland, it’s about always trying to do well every time I play. If I can do that then I give myself the best opportunity to start the next game.”

Meanwhile, Are these the new Rangers home kits for 2022/23 season?
