Former Rangers goalkeeper Jak Alnwick will be back in the starting line-up for St Mirren as the Paisley side take on the Gers at Ibrox in a key Boxing Day clash.

Alnwick missed the draw against Celtic as he was waiting for a PCR result, although it didn’t seem to do the Buddies any harm as they responded bravely with a depleted team to hold the Glasgow side to a 0-0 draw, a result which saw Rangers stretch the gap at the top to six points.

St Mirren had their request for the match against Celtic to be postponed denied as the club was ravaged by a series of players testing positive for Covid-19, with the side having to call up a number of their development team to face Celtic.

Several players should be back for the Buddies to face Rangers on Sunday, with Alnwick one of them.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

The goalkeeper played for Rangers between 2017-2020 after signing from Port Vale under Mark Warburton in January 2017.

The Englishman was expected to provide cover for Wes Foderingham, but the move didn’t work out as he only made a handful of appearances before Steven Gerrard joined the club and Alnwick was sent out on a series of loans before leaving at the end of 2019/20 season.

Youngster Dean Lyness performed admirably in his place against Celtic and may feel hard done by to make way for the former Rangers man for the upcoming tie.

If St Mirren performs how they did against Celtic, then Rangers could be in for a harder match than anticipated.

In other news, Rangers legend Ally McCoist has stated that his time in charge of the club would “make some book” as he reflects.
