Former Norwich City striker Grant Holt has claimed that Ally McCoist tried to bring him to Ibrox when he was in the dugout – but Canaries manager and former Celtic captain Paul Lambert was “never” going to allow the move to happen.
Holt admitted that he “wasn’t too worried” that the move never happened as Rangers suffered a financial meltdown soon afterwards.

“At that time I was pretty settled at Norwich so I wasn’t too worried when it didn’t happen and as Rangers collapsed not long afterwards it probably wasn’t a bad decision.”
Given the strikers Rangers had at the time, like Nikica Jelavic, missing out on Holt is hardly a blow.

When fans look back at the list of transfer targets that never quite happened for whatever reason, there’s not much chance Holt’s name will feature highly, if at all.
