David Provan ridicules Liverpool links to Rangers' Steven Gerrard

Scottish football pundit and former Celtic player David Provan has claimed that comments from Jurgen Klopp suggesting Rangers boss Steven Gerrard could replace him at Anfield lack “credibility”.

In a scathing column, the oftentimes questionable commentator claims that Gerrard “failed” last season and had Klopp done the same with Liverpool, he’d be out the door.

The pundit then went on to attack the notion that Steven Gerrard will be a top coach as he was a top player, claiming Neil Lennon has had more achievements in management.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

“Klopp’s comments were straight from the old pal’s act, but it was still one hell of an endorsement,” said Provan [Scottish Sun].

“For Gerrard, it was the royal seal of approval from a German who walks across the River Mersey to work.

“But if Klopp’s line was gold dust for the media, it was short on credibility

“Had he named any other novice coach with one barren year in management to his name, he’d have been carted off to the funny farm.

“A stellar playing career was enough to get him the Rangers job. Now Klopp has Liverpool’s prodigal son returning to Anfield.

“On the back of what exactly? What has he achieved in the dugout to earn the gig? Absolutely nothing.

“The bottom line is he FAILED last season.”

The comments – perhaps inspired by the fact Rangers trounced Aberdeen 5-0 to narrow the gap with Celtic to a point this weekend – follow statements made by Liverpool Jurgen Klopp last week.

Coupled with Klopp’s earlier comments about potentially taking a sabbatical once his contract at Anfield expires in 2022 [Kicker], there’s a genuine feeling Gerrard is being primed as a replacement.

Whilst nothing has been confirmed, and Gers fans will want Gerrard at Ibrox for as long as possible, who’s opinion are you going to respect more here?

World-class manager coach Jurgen Klopp, or second-rate ex-footballer turned pundit David Provan?
