Rangers’ pre-season was joined by a few more faces as the players who were on international duty filter back, with Northern Ireland international Charlie McCann now a fully-fledged member of the first-team squad after he got his initials on his training kit.
While McCann and Steven Davis were among those allowed to return to training later than the others, the former Man United kid was at Auchenhowie today with the rest of Gio van Bronckhorst’s stars.
Unlike many of his teammates from the B team last season, McCann wasn’t sporting his squad number on his training kit, in a likely hint at Gio van Bronkchorst’s plans to hand him a bigger role next season.
McCann made his first-team debut for Rangers last season, making four appearances in total for the Light Blues after signing from Manchester United last year.
Northern Irish ace can play big part after Rangers promotion
With McCann, Leon King and Alex Lowry all joining the first-team squad this season, they’ll be hoping they aren’t just there to make up the numbers in Gio van Bronkchorst’s squad.
McCann’s quick rise through the ranks with Northern Ireland at international level makes this season absolutely massive for the 20-year-old.
It’ll be interesting to see just what sort of role McCann plays, if any, once the competitive action gets started later this month.
