Boyd gives verdict on Steven Davis' Rangers return

Former Ranger star Kris Boys has expressed his “delight” at Steven Davis’ new Ibrox deal – and admits the Northern Irishman is “one of the best” he’s ever played with.
Davis signed a one-year deal earlier this week to turn his six-month loan move into a permanent deal, seven years after leaving Rangers to join Southampton.

Boyd believes that Davis has taken some time to find his feet after struggling for games before returning to Ibrox – but thinks his class is shining through now he’s playing again regularly.
“I was absolutely delighted to see Steven Davis earn himself a new contract at Ibrox earlier this week,” Boyd told the Scottish Sun.

“Davo is one of the best players I’ve ever played with. The wee man was just class during my first spell at the club. He’s a great boy, too, but as a player, he was unbelievable at times under Walter Smith.
“When he first came back from Southampton on loan in January, I thought he’d stroll back into the team and be the same dominant player as he was all those years ago.
“But his form wasn’t great, which just goes to show what a lack of football can do — even to the best in the business. Thankfully, Davo has managed to get a run of games under his belt and show everyone he’s still a top-class midfielder.”
Davis has been a key player in recent weeks and has put in a string of impressive performances that show just what he can bring to Steven Gerrard’s side.

Despite initially struggling, the veteran has really grown into the side and cemented his place in the starting XI.
With a host of midfield options available to Gerrard, having talent like Davis in the squad should help push others on and improve their performances.
