Although results and performances have taken a nosedive recently, November was a successful month for Rangers.
They set up a challenge for the top of the SPL with three consecutive league wins, including a 7-1 hammering of Motherwell. Gerrard’s side also only conceded one goal in those three fixtures.
The only blemish was a 4-3 defeat in the Europa League, at Spartak Moscow. However, even there, there were positives, as the Gers looked dynamic in forward areas.
Within those strong team performances, naturally, there were stand out individual displays. As a result, there was strong competition for the club’s Player of the Month award.
Alfredo Morelos was nominated for his stellar performances in front of goal. El Buffalo scored in all three league fixtures and was a constant menace to Spartak’s defence in Moscow.
Scott Arfield was also in the running. The Canada international scored twice to cap a fine individual display against Motherwell, as well as completing the scoring against Livingston, at Ibrox.
McGregor a cut above the rest
However, the third nominee and eventual winner, was Allan McGregor. The reinstated Scotland number one was outstanding for both club and country last month.
November could have went so differently, had the veteran ‘keeper not made two crucial stops in the early stages against St Mirren. Those saves laid the platform for late goals from Morelos and Daniel Candeias to bring home three vital points.
The same could be said for the crucial Europa League tie against Villarreal, at Ibrox. McGregor was called into action on numerous occasions to thwart the visitor’s attackers. Without his last ditch stops, the club’s European hopes would surely already be over.
Undoubtedly, then, a deserved winner of Ranger’s November Player of the Month, as voted by the fans.
Looking forward to Thursday night, those same fans will hope their star ‘keeper is once again on top form during the do or die encounter with Rapid Vienna.
