£17million star claims he snubbed Rangers move

Spartak Moscow midfielder Guus Til has claimed that he turned down the chance to join Rangers this summer, opting instead to sign on loan with German side Freiburg.

Til admitted he had several options on the table to leave Russia and is looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga and thinks it was the best choice for him.

The Dutch international cost £17million when he joined Spartak last year but has struggled to settle in the Russian capital after his club-record move and could have returned to his native Netherlands as well as the option of moving to Ibrox.

“I could also have gone to PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord and Rangers, but I think the Bundesliga is the best of all competitions for me and I look forward to playing in it,” Til said, as quoted by Telegraaf.

“I’ve heard from many people that Freiburg are a very family-run club and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has made no secret of his wish to add another midfielder to his side and Til would have fit the perfectly.

Til made his debut for his country as a sub against Portugal in 2018 but is yet to add to his solitary cap.
