Rangers could win the title this weekend after leaving it late to beat Livingston at the Tony Macaroni tonight thanks to Alfredo Morelos.

Gerrard made two changes to the side that last lined up for the Gers, with Nathan Patterson coming in for his first league start in place of Leon Balogun while Scott Arfield replaced Ianis Hagi.

Livi made four changes, David Martindale dropping Efe Ambrose, Steve Lawson, and Scott Robinson to the bench, to replaced by Jack Fitzwater, Craig Sibbald and Gavin Reilly while Robby McCrorie is ineligible to play and was replaced by Max Stryjek.

The only major talking point of the opening 45 was John Beaton’s outrageous decision to book Morelos for simulation after the keeper was brought down in the area by Max Stryjek.

That led to a heated row as the teams made their way off at the break, with Gerrard being shown a red card by Beaton.

While things improved in the second half – including a brief fireworks show – it took until just a few minutes before the end for Morelos to score the only goal and keep the Gers on course to potentially win the title this weekend.

Here’s how Steven Gerrard’s side performed against the beaten League Cup finalists:

Allan McGregor – 7

Little to do for the veteran and did what he had to comfortably.

Nathan Patterson – 7

First Premiership start for the defender after his goal against Antwerp last week. Solid enough performance from the teenager as he looks to get minutes under his belt.

Connor Goldson – 7

150th appearance for the defender since signing for the club – and his 60th consecutive 90 minutes – and will be delighted to come away with another clean sheet.

Filip Helander – 8

The Swede was everywhere and almost opened the scoring with a powerful header, nullified any threats the Livi attack posed as he strolled through.

Borna Barisic – 7

Barisic’s crossing was a threat and a number of times there were chances for the Light Blues to take advantage. Will be happy with his performance.

Steven Davis – 8

Veteran is head and shoulders above pretty much everyone in Scotland. Dragged Rangers across the finishing line as he shone in midfield.

Glen Kamara – 7

Typical Glen Kamara performance and the Finn played a massive role in the goal.

Joe Aribo – 7

Started brightly and looked most likely to make something happen for the Gers before fading a bit in the second half. When he’s on it though…what a player.

Scott Arfield – 5

Back in the side at the expense of Ianis Hagi but struggled to have any impact on the game. Replaced by Cedtic Itten with 18 minutes left and the Gers chasing a goal.

Ryan Kent – 6

200th club game but didn’t offer nearly enough for long spells of the game. Replaced by Bongani Zungu in the final minutes.

Alfredo Morelos – 8

Should have had a penalty but was booked for diving. Didn’t make a fuss and somehow it was deemed “bizarre” by Sky Sports. Worked had but touch was heavy at times. Of course, it had to be Morelos who scored the winner.
