Rangers linked target Danilho Doekhi played the full 90 minutes for Eredivisie side Vitesse as they won their final Europa Conference League match 3-1 against Mura.
Rangers have been linked with the Dutchman since the summer transfer window [DailyRecord] and he is available to sign a pre-contract agreement from January as his contract expires at the end of the season.
The 23-year-old is the current captain of Vitesse as the Eredivisie side currently sits fifth In the table and second in their Conference League group, although they will have to wait until Tottenham completes their final match against Rennes to determine who qualifies.
Vitesse needed a win to have any chance of progress and they achieved this rather comfortably, with Doekhi leading the side to a 3-0 halftime lead which they didn’t relinquish, although Mura scored a consolation ten minutes from time.
The defender would be an excellent addition to the Rangers squad, especially with the current selection problems the Ibrox side face.
Connor Goldson is currently stalling on signing a new contract, Filip Helander is out injured, and Niko Katic is out on loan. Add to the fact that Leon Balogun and Calvin Bassey could both potentially be away on international duty for Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations in January, our defensive options will be limited.
Could this mean the club goes for the Dutchman in January? We would be able to sign him for a respectable fee due to his contract scenario.
Whatever happens, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is going to need some more depth at centre-back and the Vitesse captain certainly fits the bill going forward.
Over to you Gio.
