Rangers duo walk suspension tightrope ahead of Europa League clash

Alfredo Morelos and Fashion Sakala are only one booking away from missing Rangers’ potentially key tie against Lyon in the Gers’ final Europa League fixture.

The duo have been reckless in European competition this season, with Morelos being booked against Lyon and Brondby, whereas Sakala was cautioned against Sparta Prague and Brondby.

With Rangers requiring all the firepower they need to secure continental football after Christmas, whether that’s Europa League or the newly established Conference League, then Morelos and Sakala need to be on their best behaviour.

Could this prompt new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst to tinker with the line-up? The likelihood is at least one of the two will start against Sparta Prague due to Kemar Roofe’s recent injury.

Alfredo Morelos’ disciplinary record has improved in recent seasons. And he will need to keep the head against the Czechs at Ibrox on Thursday night to ensure Rangers have the best possible chance of qualification.

As the Dutchman has started his managerial role, he could well bring out the best in the Colombian and get the striker performing how he can.

The striker has often shown his greatest goalscoring exploits in European competition, Thursday evening would be the perfect time to rediscover his form.

With Sakala just one caution away from missing the potentially decisive tie with Lyon too, van Bronckhorst is going to have to be very wary against Sparta Prague and warn both players to remain calm.

Our chances of qualification could depend on it.

In other news, Scott Arfield has been reacting to the Hibs defeat and promises fans he will not sugarcoat the result.
