Cause for excitement at Rangers amid suggestion of summer change

As the dust settles on season 21/22, there’s a feeling within the Rangers support that it’s something of an end of an era at Ibrox.

The Europa League Final was the apex of a squad four years in the building but which now threatens to be ripped apart as contracts tick down and the summer looms large.

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is working with largely Steven Gerrard’s squad and this summer will see the Dutchman put his own spin on things for sure.

Couple this with a series of first team players having their contracts tick down – Connor Goldson, Steven Davis, Allan McGregor, even motivational squad keeper Andy Firth – and there may will be a changing of the guards this summer.

Key first teamers such as Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo are also entering the final years of their deal and it’s time to sign them up or sell them on.

This could bring it’s own financial rewards – all three of these players in particular are top assets – and help boost Gio’s coffers this summer.

The likes of Glen Kamara and Calvin Bassey have also been mooted for potential exits and this has added to the perception that the squad will lose several key first team players.

It’s clear we won’t lose them all, but the suggestion is that plenty will move on.

Excitement at Ibrox amid claims surrounding Rangers rebuild

With this comes an added sense of excitement as Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Ross Wilson and the scouting team at Rangers set about rebuilding the squad.

The Rangers recruitment team is notoriously tight-lipped when it comes to matters of transfers these days so there is barely a peep regarding who might be joining the club.

But be rest-assured that behind the scenes at Rangers those working on this side of the club will be well aware that change is coming this summer.

It’s something that many Rangers fans will be looking forward to as this squad’s cycle – from Progres Niederkorn to Seville, from 3rd place to 1st place – appears ready to come to an end.

Speaking of Rangers transfers, one player heavily linked to the Ibrox side all year is reportedly set to move to the Bundesliga.
