Scotland under-21 boss Scot Gemmill has named seven young Rangers players in his squad for next month’s doubleheader against the Czech Republic and San Marino.

Robby McCrorie, Kieran Wright, Lewis Mayo, Ross McCrorie, Nathan Patterson, Stephen Kelly and Glenn Middleton are all in the squad as the Gers contingent make up the one-third of the 21-man squad.

Gemmill’s side take on the Czech’s at Tynecastle on October 9 before heading to San Marino’s Stadio Olimpico di Serravalle four days later.

Scotland currently find themselves four points off the top of group four, behind the Czechs and Greece, and two wins from the upcoming games would give them an excellent chance of reaching next year’s finals.

Motherwell’s Allan Campbell scored the only goal of the game in their previous qualifier against Lithuania to keep their hopes of qualification alive

 

The finals will take place in Slovenia and Hungary next year with this edition being the first year it has been expanded to 16 teams in the finals.

Rangers take on Celtic four days later in the first Old Firm clash of the season but with the bulk of the Gers players currently out on loan, only Nathan Patterson is likely to have any involvement at Parkhead.

Helping Scotland reach the finals would be a good achievement for the young Gers and having so many make up the Scotland u21 squad is another sign of the excellent work being done by the club’s Academy.
