Just days after the agonising defeat by Inverness CT in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup, six young Rangers stars were involved for Scotland under-19s yesterday as they drew 1-1 with Czech Republic in Spain.

Ciaran Dickson was named in the starting XI for Billy Stark’s side while Nathan Patterson, James Maxwell, Josh McPake, Kai Kennedy and Dapo Mebude were all on the bench.

Scotland took a first-half lead through Ethan Ross before a late Cech penalty evened the scores up with only a few minutes remaining.

The Gers contingent was the largest from any single club in Stark’s squad and shows just how far the club’s Academy has come in recent years.

From having only a handful of players across the various age groups at international level to having six in one side is testament to the excellent work being done by Craig Mulholland and his staff.

After the disappointment of the Challenge Cup defeat to Inverness on Sunday afternoon, getting away with the Scotland squad for a week and taking on two friendlies should be a good distraction for the Rangers youngsters.

The Scots are in action again on Thursday against the Czechs and there will likely be more of the Rangers starlets involved in the starting XI tomorrow.
