Rangers U18s let an early lead slip to draw with Dundee United on Friday afternoon at the Hummel Training Centre.

A relatively inexperienced squad was named for this contest, with eligible players like Kai Kennedy, Josh McPake and Nathan Patterson not involved, after turning out for the U21s in the City of Glasgow Cup on Tuesday afternoon.

However, there was still plenty of firepower in the Gers lineup, with the likes of Nathan Young-Coombes and Northern Ireland youth international, Chris McKee, included from the start.

It was the latter who opened the scoring, with a drilled finish in the 17th minute, having been played in by Robbie Fraser [Rangers Youth Updates].

Often this season, when we’ve seen a Rangers youth team go in front, they’ll soon put the game out of sight.

That didn’t happen today, though, with the visitors’ defence holding firm until the break.

Scotland U16 attacker Dire Mebude replaced Young-Coombes at the interval, but it was to be United who scored next, with Rhys Caves capitalising on a defensive error to level the scores in the 51st minute.

Despite further substitutions which introduced Kyle Semple, Robbie Ure and Mackenzie Strachan into the action, there would ultimately be no winner for the home side.

After a bright start, the coaching staff will likely be disappointed that an early lead wasn’t converted into a win.
