Rangers striker Zak Rudden enjoyed a prolific spell on loan at Falkirk last season but has found goals a bit harder to come by this term after joining Plymouth Argyle on a short-term deal – but the striker finally broke his duck for Argyle last night and fans were delighted for the Gers youngster.

Rudden scored the opening goal for Ryan Lowe’s side in a comfortable 3-0 win over Swindon Town in the Leasing.com Trophy to go top of the Group F table.

The young striker had replaced Ryan Taylor in the starting XI, after returning to action as a substitute at the weekend, and it only took him 15 minutes to make his mark when he headed Gary Sawyer’s cross back across goalkeeper Steven Benda and in at the back post.

Joel Grant made it 2-0 to the Pilgrims before the break with Joe Riley adding a third 20 minutes after the restart as Rudden played 72 minutes before being replaced.

After netting 12 times last season for the Bairns as they failed to avoid relegation to League One, Rudden has taken a little longer to find his feet in England.

Now that he’s scored his first though, it wouldn’t be a shock if he starts scoring regularly for Lowe’s side as they look to climb up the League Two table and challenge for a playoff spot.

Fans on Twitter were delighted to see the Rangers youngster get his first goal of the season – with one fan saying he’s “just getting warmed up.”
