Rangers trio Alex Lowry, Adam Devine and Jay Hogarth were named in the starting XI for Scotland under-19s European Championship Elite Round qualifying clash with Turkey this afternoon – with Lowry getting on the scoresheet twice in a 2-1 win at the Gyirmóti Stadion in Győr.
Cole McKinnon started the game on the bench for Billy Stark’s side while Leon King missed out after withdrawing from the squad through injury earlier today.
A goalless opening 45 saw the Turks create a number of chances, Hogarth making some important saves to deny them the opener.
The Rangers keeper was the busiest of the Ibrox youngsters as both sides put in plenty of effort in their bid to break the deadlock.
Nine minutes after the break, the opening goal came and it was, unsurprisingly, Alex Lowry was at the middle of it all.
After Turkey were reduced to ten men when Emin Bayram was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Brooks, before Lowry stepped up and netted the resulting free-kick.
Scotland’s lead didn’t last long though, Turkey drawing themselves level just 12 minutes later – despite the Scots having an extra man.
The advantage paid off shortly afterward, Scotland again taking the lead and Lowry again scoring, netting from the penalty spot this time after a foul by Tuğbey Akgün.
After going behind again, Turkey piled the pressure on Scotland as they looked for a second equaliser but were unable to find a way through.
With two games to come over the next week for Scotland, there’s a great chance for Scotland to book their place at the finals in Slovakia this summer.
The remaining games for Billy Start’s side are:
Hungary v Scotland
Saturday 26 March – 6.45pm
Gyirmoti Stadion, Gyor
Scotland v Israel
Tuesday 29 March – 5pm
Gyirmoti Stadion, Gyor
Rangers fans have plenty of things to worry about off the field at the moment as the club’s Board and a group of shareholders engage in a pretty damaging online spat.
