Rangers loanee Kai Kennedy had a debut to forget for Hamilton Accies yesterday as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Dunfermline – the club Kennedy spent the first half of the season with.
The winger was introduced from the bench days after his loan move was made official, but couldn’t stop Accies losing to the Pars at East End Park.
Kennedy had an indifferent spell with the Fifers, coming in and out of the side, before his loan was ended early and he was sent to Hamilton.
The Rangers loanee replaced Any Winter for the final 25 minutes as Stuart Taylor’s side chased an equaliser but they were unable to level after Ryan Dow put the hosts in front only 32 minutes in.
This is Kennedy’s fourth loan move to a Championship side in the last two seasons having played for Inverness Caley Thistle and Raith Rovers last season.
While he is still young, he needs to show more consistency after typically up and down performances at all three of his previous loan sides.
There’s no doubt the talent Kennedy possesses but he also needs to show he has the right mentality to be a success at clubs like Hamilton and Dunfermline before he can even consider a place in the Rangers first-team.
Kennedy has plenty of time to make his mark but with Gio van Bronckhorst likely to be busy in the transfer market this summer, he’ll need to really shine if he is to catch the Rangers boss’ eye over the coming months.
