Rangers loanee Ben Williamson made his debut for Championship side Arbroath on Saturday, playing 90 minutes as the Red Lichties pulled off a stunning comeback from 2-0 down against Queen of the South to snatch a point.

Williamson was joined in central midfield by fellow debutant Jake Davidson and will have been fearing the worst after Dick Campbell’s side went 2-0 down shortly after the restart.

Substitute Scott Stewart, gave the hosts a lifeline with a low drilled shot in in the 63rd minute before captain Thomas O’Brien pulled Arbroath level two minutes later.

There were a couple of familiar faces in the opposition ranks for Williamson, with James Maxwell also playing the full 90 minutes while Rhys Breen was an unused substitute.

Before his move to Arbroath was confirmed last week, Williamson put pen to paper on a new contract at Ibrox which will keep him at Rangers until the summer of 2022 after a series of impressive performances for Kevin Thomson and Brian Gilmour’s B team.

Next up for Williamson and his Arbroath team-mates is the visit of Dundee to Gayfield on Friday night as they look to leapfrog Alloa and climb off the foot of the Championship table.

Several other Ibrox prospects weren’t able to play for their respective loans clubs over the weekend, though, after being left in limbo by a big SFA decision.
