Rangers slipped to a disappointing defeat on Tuesday night in the City of Glasgow Cup.

After a rallying second-half performance that clawed back a two-goal deficit, there was to be last minute dispair as Robbie Deas scored a 95th-minute winner for Celtic.

It’s undoubtedly a blow following the impressive Scottish Youth Cup win last week.

However, the defeat doesn’t mean the Gers left without any positives.

Glenn Middleton has been in scintillating form recently and was once superb once more.

In the 86th minute, he picked the ball up on the right, around 30 yards from goal. With few options available, he shifts it onto his left and cuts inside before getting a shot off under pressure from three opposition defenders.

As seems to be the only way with Middleton at the minute, it flew straight into the top corner.

It was an outstanding strike and a goal fit to win any cup final.

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t even be enough to force extra time on this occasion. This is a young player whose stock continues to rise, though.

He’s been starved of first-team opportunities in 2019, but that will surely change come next season.

This selection of Bears were certainly impressed:
