Rangers confirm keeper loan deal as he signs three-year contract extension

Rangers keeper Jay Hogarth has become the second Ibrox Academy star to join Alloa on loan this week, joining Murray Miller in Clackmannanshire, after also putting pen to paper on a new three-year deal with the Gers.

The 18-year-old was a standout for the B team in the Lowland League last season and regularly trained with Gio van Bronckhorst’s first-team – even making the bench on the run to the Europa League final in Seville.

Hogarth will now join Brian Rice’s side for the season as they look to battle the likes of Falkirk, Dunfermline and Kelty Hearts for promotion to the Championship before returning to Ibrox.

For Hogarth, the move to Alloa is also a chance for him to follow in the footsteps of his dad, ex-keeper Myles, who made a handful of appearances for the Wasps in 2002/03 before moving to local rivals Stirling Albion.

Rangers Academy coach delighted as Hogarth gets set for next challenge

With a new three-year deal signed, there’s obviously a lot of belief in Hogarth as he looks to push into the first-team picture at Rangers in the coming years.

“We are delighted that Jay has extended his stay at Rangers for a further three years,” Academy head of goalkeeping Graeme Smith said [Rangers TV].

“Jay has continued to make fantastic progress during his time at the club and has worked incredibly hard from becoming part of our Academy at the age of ten years old.

“As part of our Boclair school programme and now our Professional Development Phase he has continued to rise to each challenge that we have set him.

“He was a key player for us last year in our inaugural Lowland League campaign, as well as our continued progress in the UEFA Youth League and at an international level with the Scotland U19 squad.

“The opportunity to play with Alloa in League One for the season ahead will provide the next challenge for him to learn as he continues his development through the pathway that we have planned for Jay.”
