Rangers beat off Man United, Liverpool to sign teen wonderkid Lancelot Pollard - report

Rangers have beaten off competition from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United to land Aberdeen wonderkid Lancelot Pollard, according to a report.

According to the Sun, Rangers will pay a six-figure fee to the Dons for the teenager after a string of impressive displays for the Dons’ under-18s.

Pollard is yet to sign his first pro contract and is free to leave Pittodrie with whoever lands the teenage prodigy having to pay a development fee.

Rangers’ impressive results bringing through young players recently may have played a part in Pollard’s decision with the likes of Nathan Patterson, Alex Lowry, Leon King and Charlie McCann forcing their way into the first-team picture in recent seasons.

Having impressed for the Dons’ youth sides this season, Rangers appear to have moved quickly to snap Pollard up and add him to the Academy ranks.

Pollard an exciting acquisition for Rangers as he continues his development

With a clear pathway to the first-team at Ibrox, the prospect of first-team football sooner than at the likes of Man United or Liverpool may have tipped the scales in Rangers’ favour.

Pollard will need to put the hard graft in to prove himself among a host of young talent all aiming for the same thing – a place in Gio van Bronckhorst’s side.

If Pollard continues what he’s been doing at Aberdeen, it shouldn’t be too long though before he’s around the first-team and pushing for a debut.

There are plenty of transfer reports already doing the rounds with the Gers said to be facing off against Premier League clubs to sign an ex-Man United youth.
