Rangers striker Chris McKee is “close” to joining Northern Irish side Linfield on loan for the rest of the season, according to reports on social media.
Northern Irish broadcaster Steven Beacom claims the B team star will head across the water and join the Blues until the summer as he looks to get first-team action under his belt in the coming months.
McKee is out of contract in the summer and spent time on loan last season with Brechin City as they lost their place in the SPFL to Kelty Hearts.
Linfield are managed by former Rangers striker David Healy and are, like the Gers, looking to lift a 56th league title this season after lifting 55 last term.
19-year-old McKee has been involved with the Rangers B team as the Gers’ UEFA Youth League side this season as he looks to make the breakthrough at Ibrox.
The teenager’s outstanding form last season for the Gers B team saw him catapulted into the Northern Ireland under-21 side at the age of 18 and the striker will be hoping a return to his homeland can see him advance his club career.
With his contract up at the end of the season, the chance to impress for Linfield should really help his chances of securing a long-term contract at Ibrox and looking to push into the first-team picture.
McKee has hit the net four times in the Lowland League this season for Rangers B as David McCallum’s side sit second in the table behind Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic.
The arrival of Sands could be the catalyst for more players to join the club, as interest heats up in a defender plying his trade in the Eredivisie.
