Rangers B learn SPFL Trust Trophy opponents after draws completed

Rangers B will face Spartans in the first round of the SPFL Trust Trophy, with the winners going on to face Dumbarton in the second round after the draws were conducted today.

David McCallum’s side will travel to Ainslie Park in Edinburgh to face their fellow Lowland League challengers before the winners host Dumbarton.

The first round draw was seeded and regionalised, with Rangers B unseeded in the South Section and kept apart from facing other B teams in round one.

However, while round two remains regionalised, there is no seeding which means B teams (should they qualify) can face each other.

First-round fixtures take place on August 9/10 while the second-round games are scheduled for August 23/24.

This year also sees the return of non-Scottish sides to the tournament after their involvement was halted due to logistical issues caused by the Covid pandemic.

The New Saints and Caernarfon Town, from the JD Cymru Premier in Wales, and Linfield and Cliftonville, from the Danske Bank Premiership in Northern Ireland, will take part in this year’s tournament however there are no sides from England of the Republic of Ireland taking part this season.

Raith Rovers are the current holders of the trophy after winning last season, while Rangers B will be hoping to go one better than when they reached the semi-finals in 2020 before losing out to Inverness CT.
