Rangers B coach excited ahead of new season as new group emerges for Gers

Rangers B head coach David McCallum is thrilled to get back to work as the players report for pre-season, as he looked ahead to the new season and an ‘exciting time’ for the Gers Academy.

With the new season edging closer, the players have been back at Auchenhowie as McCallum puts them through their paces ahead of the Lowland League season getting underway.

After the likes of Leon King, Alex Lowry and Charlie McCann joined the first team permanently, McCallum will be working with a, largely, new group of players this season and he can’t wait to get going.

“First and foremost, it is exciting to be back,” McCallum said [Rangers TV]

“It’s not been the longest of breaks and the lads have been champing at the bit to get back in. They’re coming back into a facility that is ready to go and they are just excited to get back on the ball.

“This is pretty much a new group, which is just because this is the stage that this group naturally evolves through time. Some of the lads are ready to go closer to the first team and some of them might be going to different loan environments.

“Some of these decisions will be taken in the next few weeks but the 2004s, who touched on being part of the B team group last season, are now going to be more prominent in the group and it is just an exciting time.”

Hugely exciting time for Rangers Academy talent as pathway to first-team clear

With a clear pathway to the first-team for young players at Ibrox, it is an exciting time for the Academy talents at the club.

Following the likes of Lowry, King, McCann and Nathan Patterson into the first-team actually seems realistic for many of the youngsters at Rangers when for years it’s been a million miles away for most.

Playing in the Lowland League will be great for their development as the Gers’ Academy staff look to create more talent for the first team.
