After some initial confusion, it has been asserted that Rangers U17 have avoided Inter Milan and will now face Mohammed VI Academy in the first knockout round of the Alkass Cup [Alkass International Cup Twitter].

The young Gers made it out of their initial group courtesy of a 3-2 win over Suwon Samsung and a thrilling 4-4 draw with Aspire Academy.

Charlie Lindsay was impressive in both fixtures, earning particular praise from fans for pulling off an audacious free-kick in the latter.

Their unbeaten start to the tournament ensured they would progress, but for some time on Tuesday, there was confusion as to who they would face next.

Initially, reliable Twitter account Rangers Youth Updates, asserted that the next game would be against Inter Milan at 1615 on Wednesday.

That was based on assertions made by commentators surrounding head-to-head records in another group.

However, it has since been confirmed that Mohammed VI Academy of Morocco, in fact, pipped Inter to the top spot in their group and have therefore been rewarded with a fixture against the Gers, who finished second in theirs.

Given that last year’s side went on to win the whole competition, this squad will be keen to take their defence of the trophy as far as possible.

The likes of Kai Kennedy and Nathan Young-Coombes used the 2019 Alkass Cup as a platform from which to kick on, and there’ll no doubt be more individuals looking for similar exposure and progression this time around.
