Dundee have confirmed that Rangers youngster Josh McPake has returned to Ibrox after his loan deal came to an end.
McPake joined the Championship side in the summer but only managed seven appearances for the Dens Park club before returning to Rangers.
The youngster is very highly thought of at Ibrox and, despite his loan stint not going to plan, will hope to kick on in the second half of the season and push for a place in the first-team squad.
McPake was named Rangers’ Academy Player of the Year last season and at only 18, he still has a lot of development to do before he’s ready for regular first-team football at Ibrox.
It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him go out on loan somewhere else for the rest of the campaign in a bid to get regular competitive minutes.
His manager at Dundee, James McPake, spoke positively of the teenager’s willingness to learn earlier in the season and it shows that he’s got the right attitude even if he wasn’t playing consistently.
With some massive games coming up for Graeme Murty’s Colts – and the Scottish Cup clash against Stranraer for the first-team – Rangers might just decide to keep him around for the rest of the season but, hopefully, the experience at Dundee stands him in good stead for his future.
