Jake Hastie in Rangers starting XI as Gers B lose out to Newcastle at Ibrox

Rangers outcast Jake Hastie made a rare appearance in a blue jersey at Ibrox yesterday as he turned out for the Gers B team in friendly against Newcastle’s under-23s.

Hastie spent the second half of the season on loan with Linfield after a stint at Partick Thistle bombed, and he played the full 90 as Rangers B slipped to a 3-2 defeat.

Hastie and fellow returning loanee Josh McPake were both named in a young starting XI that saw the likes of Cole McKinnon, Adam Devine, Alex Lowry and Leon King missing ahead of next week’s Europa League final.

Kyle McClelland also featured for Rangers in what will be his last appearance for the Gers after confirming he will be leaving this summer amid reported interest from the likes of West Ham.

McPake opened the scoring after 15 minutes when he fired home from a corner but the lead didn’t last too long with Newcastle pegging Rangers back before the half-hour through Dylan Stephenson.

Shortly before half-time, Rangers restored their lead when Charlie Lindsay volleyed beyond Newcastle keeper Thompson to make it 2-1.

Both sides made several changes after the break but it was Newcastle’s who had the bigger impact on the game as the Geordies turned things around in the second 45.

Substitute Matty Bondswell grabbed the leveller for Newcastle shortly after the turnaround before Dyland Crossley scored the winner with just under 30 minutes to go in the game and seal the win.
